Basic Crocheted Coaster – Free Crochet Pattern

For this Basic Crocheted Coaster project you will need:
HOOK: 5 mm hook or size H hook for the US
YARN: small amount of worsted weight yarn, 4 ply US, 10 ply AU
100 grams / 3.5. oz
240 meters / 262 yards
Abbreviations are:
ch = Chain
sl st = Slip Stitch
sp = Space
st = Stitch
sc = Single Crochet
dc = Double Crochet
* = REPEAT what is in the brackets til end of row \ round.
( ) = number of stitches you should have at the end of the row.

To Start:
ch 3, sl st in beginning stitch to form a ring
Round 1
ch 1 and sc 8 into ring and place a marker to mark this first stitch. sl st in beginning stitch (8 sts)
Round 2
ch 1 and * sc 2 in all sts around * sl st in beginning stitch (16 sts)
ch 1 and sc 2 in the first stitch, then * sc 1 in next stitch , sc 2 in the next stitch *, sl st in beginning stitch (24 sts)
ch 1 and sc 2 in the first stitch, then * sc 1 in next 2 stitches, sc 2 in the next stitch *, sl st in beginning stitch (32)
ch 1 and sc 2 in the first stitch, then * sc 1 in next 3 stitches, sc 2 in the next stitch *, sl st in beginning stitch (40)
ch 1 and sc 2 in the first stitch, then * sc 1 in next 4 stitches, sc 2 in the next stitch *, sl st in beginning stitch (48)
NOTE: If you find your coaster is not laying flat after this row rip out the row and just do 1 single crochet in each stitch instead.
ch 1 and Sc 1 in all sts around
Round 8
Change colors to white, *ch 5, skip a st and sl st into the next stitch* repeat until the last st, sl st into beginning stitch
Fasten off and work in ends.
