To Start
The AS is done in multiples of 3
Sizes
- Toddler โ ch 48
- Child or adult female โ ch 60
- Men โ ch 69
Once you have the length of chain you need sl st in the beginning ch to form a ring
Round 1
ch 1 and dc into same stitch, dc in all sts around. Sl st in beginning dc, not the chain.
Round 2 โ 4 (for three rounds)
ch 1 and FPDC on the post of the beginning dc from round 1, and repeat for all posts around. Always sl st into beginning dc, not the ch 2
Round 5
ch 1 and insert your hook back into the same st, pull up a loop. Unsert your hook into the next stitch and pull up a loop, then one more time, insert your hook into the next st and pull up a loop, 4 loops on your hook YO and pull through all 4 loops and ch 1. By chaining one you have created a st on the top of your loops, sc 3 into this top st. This is your first AS.
To start your next AS just go right into the next st and insert your hook and pull up a loop and repeat what you did before. When you get back up to the beginning AS you want to sl st in the first loop you created when making your AS.
Round 6
To work the AS’s on the second row, you will be skipping a st and working in the next two sc’s on top of the AS from the previous row. Then using the large stitch in between the AS’s to complete the 4 loops you need. As shown in the picture below.
Rounds 7 โ 11
repeat round 6 until you have 13 rounds total of AS’s
Round 12 โ Making the rim
sl st in beginning st and ch 1, then sc into the same st. You will be single crocheting into the same stitches as you did to make your AS’s last rounds, skipping the first sc and single crocheting into the next two. AT the end of this round you should have the same number of stitches as you started with.
Round 13
Place a marker to mark your first stitch. You want to decrease 4 stitches this round. So if you started with 60 sts, you want to decrease down to 56. This will give you a more snug brim. But if you like it at 60 then no need to decrease. But if you do, then sc in the next *3 stitches, then do a sc dec, * repeat this 3 more times to get the 4 decreases that you need. Then sc in rest of stitches.
Rounds 14 – 16
sc in all sts around. After round 16, sl st in next stitch, ch 1 and cut your yarn.
Now cut a piece of string long enough to wrap around the top of your hat with a bit extra so you can tie it in a bow.
Then thread it with your tapestry needle and weave it in the stitches at the top the hat where we did out FPDC’s.
Once you have gather all your stitches, even out the string and pull it tight.
Stuff the strings in side the hole, and pull it tight and tie a bow.
This will close the beanie but leave it open to be adjusted if you would like to pull a pony tail through it later. Just open a hole and tie your bow. And pull your hair through it.
