Bear Claw Crochet Stitch or Spike Crochet Stitch – Free Crochet Pattern

Bear Claw Crochet Stitch or Spike Crochet Stitch tutorial will teaches you to crochet this beautiful crochet stitch. It’s done very simple stitch that only uses sc (single crochet) dc (double crochet) FPTRC (Front post triple crochet) FPDC (front post double crochet)

So I did my best to recreate it by looking at the pictures she shared in the group and this is what I came up with!

It really is a simple stitch! Don’t let the Front post triple crochets scare you, it’s super easy to get down and there’s only 4 repeating rows that can be done in your sleep.

For this project you’ll need:

HOOK: Size yarn recommends but I used 5 mm hook or size H hook for the US

YARN: Any size but I used worsted weight yarn, 4 ply US, 10 ply AU

If you are looking to make an afghan I have estimated about how many chains you would need to get these following sizes:

I also recommend using a size 6 mm \ J hook to make the beginning chain, then switch to a size 5 mm \ H hook on row 1

This stitch also uses 3 colors. I used Cream, Rose and a Variegated yarn, and this is how I will refer to them in the pattern.

Blanket Sizes

  • For baby blanket 126 stitches + 5 = 131 total stitches
  • For twin size 154 Stitches + 5 = 159 total stitches
  • For Queen size 196 + 5 = 201

This is only an estimate. I recommend measuring your chain to get a better idea of size.
