For this project you will need:
- HOOK: 5 mm hook or size H hook for the US
- YARN: worsted weight yarn, 4 ply US, 10 ply AU – 100 grams / 3.5. oz – 240 meters / 262 yards

HOW TO MAKE A BLACK BERRY
Black Berry stitches will always be worked this same way into the chain. Insert your hook into first chain and pull up a loop, YO and insert your hook back into the same chain, (4 loops on hook) YO and insert your hook back into the same chain, ( 6 loops on hook ) YO and pull through all 6 loops. Ch 1 to secure berry, then sl st into the same ch space.
This stitch is done using 3 sts, so feel free to add 3 or remove three sts to get the width you desire if you wish to make a Lacy afghan. If you would like help with sizing you can see this site here.
To start:
Do 20 SCFD sts, ch 1 and turn your work. If you want to make it bigger the multiples of this scarf is 3 + 2
Row 1
Ch 3 and DC into the next 2 stitches, the Ch 3 will count as 1st DC.
*Ch 3, and work a BB stitch into first chain as explained above on โHow to make a Black Berryโ then without skipping a stitch, DC into the next 3 sts * Repeat for row. Dc into last stitch of round. Then Ch 3 and turn.
Row 2
Skip the next DC, *SC into top of BB from previous row, making sure you grab both loops. DC into next stitch, Ch 3 make BB and DC into next stitch. Skip the next DC* repeat for row.
After your last BB, DC in next DC and DC in ending Ch 3. Then Ch 3 and turn.
Row 3
Ch 3 counts as first stitch. Skip next DC and * SC into top to BB. DC into the next DC and do a BB. DC into the SC stitch. Skip next DC* repeat for row.
After your last BB, DC in next DC and DC in ending Ch 3. Then Ch 3 and turn.
Repeat row 3 until scarf is the length you desire.
TO END THE SCARF
Row 1
Ch 3 counts as first stitch. Skip next DC. * SC in top of BB. DC in next 2 DC’s. Skip next DC * repeat for row. DC in last 2 DC’s and also the ending CH 3.
You should end with 20 stitches including the beg Ch 3. Then Ch 3 and Turn.

Row 2
Ch 3 counts as first stitch. DC in 19 sts, this includes the ending Ch 3.
Ch 1 and turn.
Row 3
SC in all 20 sts across. ch 1 and cut yarn.
