How to make a Crochet Wreath – Crochet Flower Heart Wreath – Free Crochet pattern

Moving day is quickly approaching and I wanted to make something for the new apartment to celebrate! Just after designing the Crochet Rose I was in a craft store and saw this foam wreath hanging there. I had watched to make a wreath in the past but never found one I could use. So I got excited and bought it! Using last weeks crochet pattern, this is what I came up with. I hope you like it!

Here’s a fun video showing you more pictures from this pattern.

For this project you’ll need:

HOOK: 5 mm hook or size H hook for the US

YARN: I used 2 ply yarn to make the flowers and 4 ply worsted weight yarn to wrap around the heart wreath

You will need a foam wreath of some shape, a tapestry needle and a glue gun.

I made 16 flowers using 3 different colors. This was enough to fit my size wreath

I cut out the center heart so that all I was left with was a wreath. I rolled out a small ball of yarn so I could easily fit it through the center of the wreath and just started wrapping the yarn around it. I wrapped over my yarn a bit at the start so that it would hold my yarn tail in place.

I know it takes a lot of time and effort, but take your time and do this part right. You may need to create another small yarn ball to be able to cover the whole thing.

When you’ve wrapped the whole thing, then you can cut your yarn and use your hook to pull it through the yarn, even making a slip knot or two to secure it better.

Then lay on your flowers.

It may take some messing around with it until you find something you like. Then leave your flowers where they are. Only pick up one flower at a time to glue it on so you keep the design you envisioned.

When you’ve got something you like then plug in your hot glue gun. Be very careful if this is your first time using a glue gun. Don’t touch the glue with your fingers!

It took me 2 sticks of glue total to glue all the flowers.

Apply the glue in the center of the flower in a small circle.

Then carefully set it in position on the wreath where you wanted it. It doesn’t take much pressure, the glue will hold it quite fast. Make sure to only glue the center so the flower attaches with it’s petals free.
