How to make a jump rope with crochet may sound crazy to you but me and my daughter found ourselves in a bit of a pickle when she remembered she needs to practice jump roping for gym class. Well even though her school is not open because of โthe thing that can’t be namedโ we still needed a jump rope because she’s outgrown the one she had.
So I said to her โI sure wish I could crochet you oneโ we thought about bulky yarn, but it’s just not heavy enough, so she says โWhat about the Rug Yarn?โ she’s referring to the crocheted rugs I made a few years back.

For this project you will need:
- HOOK: I used was a 11.50 mm\ size P hook
- YARN: Get a soft T shirt yarn about 1 inch wide.

SIZE
The Rope measure 8 ft long
My daughter is 157 cms or 5 foot 2 inches and this length is perfect for her. I Chained 160 chains.
It’s slightly longer than she needs, giving her room to wrap it around her hands for better grip and control. It’s better to be to long than to short.
I left a bit of a tail at the start before I created my slip knot just to give it a bit of a fringe at the end.

This is a quick project, it took me about 2 minutes to crochet it.
If you’re like me and still have T shirt yarn laying around then this can be a fun way to use it up. Make a jump rope for all the kids in your family. Could be a fun way to keep the kids busy at your next BBQ. But until we can do BBQ’s again, I know it can be hard to find ways to stay fit.
