Crochet Leaf Wall Hanging pattern – Blog Post # 15

This Crochet Leaf Wall Hanging was made after I finished with my Flower Garland and Falling Flowers Garland pattern and tutorial I still had one more wall that needed a piece of art on the wall. I didn’t want to use the same pattern as before, so I made bigger leaves with borders to really show the color of the leaves. It was a great way to use of my left over scrap yarn from the other two projects.

First I made lots of leaves. I made them with no real idea as to what I was going to use them for exactly so I didn’t know when to stop making them so I just filled up a bag.

I used 7 colors total, but not all colors where used to make the leaves. I used 4 colors to make 12 leaves. Though I didn’t end up using all the leaves and made a chain of leaves for my son to hang in his room.

I gave his plain black tree with leaves some color. What do you think?

So 4 different colors I used to make the leaves and then I would vary the colors that I used to make the border around the leaf. I used a medium brown for my stem color.

Making the leaves

chain 9

sc in the 2nd ch from the hook, sc in the next st as well. HDC in next 2 chs, DC in next 2 chs, TRC in last 2 chs.

Ch 3 and turn. TRC in the next st. The Ch 3 counts as the first TRC of the row. DC in next 2 sts, HDC in next 2 sts, SC in last 2 sts. Then sl st into the tip of the leaf. Ch 1 and leaving a small tail to be able to hide with a tapestry needle, cut your yarn.

Making the Border of the Leaf

Change to a different color for the border. Sl st onto the back loop of your first TRC. Sl st down your row using the BLO.

When you sl st in the last SC of this side of your leaf, ch 3 and pivot your leaf to the other side, then sl st into your first SC on the this side of the leaf. Continue to sl st into all your sts until you reach the top of your leaf.

Sl st down the side stitches of your 2 TRC’s. You should be able to Sl st 3 times for a total of 6 sl stitches along the 2 TRC’s along the top. If you need to put 1 more slip stitch to ensure it’s flat at the top and not pulling or curling, then feel free to do so.

I made 8 leaves made with one color and I used 6 different colors as borders. As I said before I made 4 different color leaves. So most of my colors when to doing the borders around the leaf.

When connecting the leaves I chained 10 in between each leaf connection. I made varying lengths and would connect them as I went.

No certain pattern, just went with what looked good, then I would sl st to connect it, then nail the end of the chain to the wall.

Try different ways to attach it to the wall and start branching off as you go. Get creative! Don’t hide your tails until you’re sure you like it so you can always undo it and move it to a better spot.

Have a wonderful day! Talk to you all soon!
