I created a video that goes into detail about all these stitches and how they came to be created, but I also realize that some have hearing issues or need to Google Translate into another language so I am making this page for you. But here is the video for those who would prefer that.

The Butterfly Stitch

The first stitch I ever created is called The Butterfly Stitch. I name it that because when I shared it with channel, someone commented that the spaces the stitch left, looked like little butterflies! I just love the puffy look of this stitch. It’s created using 2 stitches to complete it.

I’ve made a lapghan using this stitch for my daughter to use when she’s at her computer, and the fact that it’s small, it doesn’t get stuck in the wheels of her chair when she moves around and it’s easy enough to throw to the side or leave in her chair when she needs to get up. Also it can be folded and hung over the back of her chair for easy grabbing later when she needs it. The stitch comes out looking puffy and looks great in solid colors!

Single and DC linked stiches

This one was not my original idea, though I sure did put the work in to make it happen.

One day I was searching on pinterest for crochet ideas and I saw a picture of this stitch. It was only a picture, but I thought it was amazing that you could link crochet like this.

After searching for awhile and coming up empty, I decided to just experiment for myself. It took me some time before I finally found something that worked AND looked good.

It’s not the easiest method and I would never want to make a large project using it, but it looks amazing enough to make a scarf from.

I experimented using single crochet’s and Double crochets and it’s hard to pick which one I like better, though the DC tutorial seems to get a lot more attention.

Jagged Crochet Stitch

This next stitch is also one I created myself and I named it the Jagged crochet stitch. It can be hard to come up with names for these stitches and this one was no different.

I’ve used it to make hats, a water bottle holder, a scrap afghan and a poncho for my husband. It’s a great stitch to use up scrap yarn!

The only issue I had with it was when I tried to make a blanket. After awhile, because the stitch has a pulling nature, it always made one side lopsided.

So I tried leaving a row of DC’s in between a few rows of the Jagged stitch, in hopes it would calm down the pulling and it worked!

I gathered a ton of scrap yarn and a chose a MAIN color to use for my “Stabling” rows. I organized my colors to give it more of a rainbow look. I used this same method for my husband’s poncho, only I used Black instead of white as my main color.

My daughter still says this is one of her favorite blankets that I’ve ever made and my Husband still wears his Poncho every year.

Gothic Crochet Stitch

(designed by astra.lebedeva2019 on Instagram)

This next stitch was made by another yarn artist who creates her own stitches. If you’re a fan of lacy unique stitches I recommend that you go check out her Instagram page.

If there is ever any stitches by her you’d really like me to do, then I can ask her for permission to do another tutorial for her.

I am a stitch designer myself and it always pains me to see someone take and redo one of my stitches without at least asking me first. Even though they don’t have to for a crochet stitch, it still feels like the very when they don’t.

This stitch she made is unique in the way she uses the placement of her stitches to give this really awesome effect. If you’re looking for something new you’ve never done before, then I recommend giving it a try.

Glover Stitch

This stitch I created when the crocheting world was really getting into bulky yarn.

I searched around for a crochet stitch to use with it and I mainly found just a bunch of single crochet blankets, but I wanted mine to be unique and have a more texture look to it, rather than plain single crochets.

I knew the stitch had to be easy to find the stitches for the next row and easy to pull through the hook. It took some time but I was successful! It had texture and was easy to do and it also looked great with worsted weight yarn too!

Using a solid and a variegated color I made the Bulky Glover Stitch Baby Blanket. I named it the Glover stitch because it just popped into my head, just like the name Meladora did, and I liked the sound of it and it was simple to rememeber.

I’ve never got around to designing a way to reduce with it, when I made hats from it I would just switch to single crochets. This stitch is also a medium warm stitch and is very easy to pick up on and has a different look if you pivot it around and look at it from the other side.

Raspberry Stitch (for crochet)

This was the second stitch I ever designed and I posted the video on Nov 13, 2012. At that time YouTube was offering a “stabilizer” effect to videos and if you watch the tutorial you can see all the movement all over the place like someone is drunk holding a camera. My camera was mounted in place and pointed down. I think YouTube’s system was trying to follow my hands and you can see the effect is just awful! And it can’t be removed either, I would have to reupload it, so I later decided to just refilm it when I got a better camera.

Anyway I was introduced to a stitch called the “Seed Stitch” and I thought it was so cool that you could just alternate these two basic stitches and come up with a whole new looking crochet piece, so I was inspired to play around with these two stitches to see if I could get another stitch that looked good and would be as simple. I was looking to make a hat for my next tutorial so I started experimenting in the round and after several rows I was happy with the look of the stitch, but I was afraid it may be to tight so I put my hand inside to try to get a feel for the size and I felt a bumpy texture!

So I turned it inside out and it was beautiful! I quickly looked online to see if I could find anything like it and I did, but it was a knitted stitch. It was called the Raspberry stitch. I decided to start over on the hat, but this time I would turn the hat inside out and work the stitch from in inside out once I got past the increase rows. It really came out better than I could have imaged and it really did look like the knitted version of the Raspberry stitch, so this is way I called my stitch the Raspberry stitch for Crochet.

It’s a warm stitch, but can be tight and have less of a give, so I recommend making any hat from it a bit bigger than you would if you were just using regular stitches. Also the Raspberry’s only show up on the back of the stitch so whatever you make will have to be in the round or a one sided row kindly thing. Which I did make an blanket using. Stay tuned and I’ll show you how I did it.

Angel Stitch

I know some of you may look at this stitch and say “Huh? That don’t look like no Angel” but at the time the bottom looked like a little dress and the top kind of looked like a halo. Like I said naming stitches aren’t easy, give me a break 😂

So this stitch was another one of those pictures with no link attached. There were two pictures. One showed the first part of the stitch and the second one showed the top part. Again I was blown away, that fact that you could build onto a stitch and make it essentially two rows of crochet at one time was a new concept, which took me some time to figure out what I was looking at so that I could recreate it. I finally got something that worked, though later I changed it again to make it even easier to do.

Raspberry Angel Baby Crochet Afghan

Now this is the stitch I referred at the end of the Raspberry stitch section of the video. This takes a combination of my Raspberry stitch for Crochet and the Angel Stitch to create a whole new stitch and look. For a long time I wanted to make something in rows with the Raspberry stitch that would still keep it’s bumpy look and had failed time and time again. I was so grateful to God for letting me figure this one out. Given that the Angel stitch is a two tier stitch, I started the Angel stitch as normal but on the second tier of the stitch I did the Raspberry stitch! It was so simple and looked awesome! It’s one of those stitches that look Complicated but really isn’t. I take you step by step in the tutorial. I really hope you’ll give it a try.

Star Fish Stitch

This last stitch was the third stitch I ever made. I was in my making the shell stitch phase, but it was flat, and you know by now how much I love texture, so I thought to myself, How can I add texture to this stitch? Making front and back post’s seemed the easiest answer since I was working with Double Crochets so I gave it a try and it worked better than I thought it would. I did it for several rows then decided to try and make a scarf using it. Once I was done and took a picture, I noticed that 2 rows of this stitch looked starfish like, and since nothing else came to me before the time came to make the video, I just went with the Starfish stitch.

The blanket I showed you at the start was made using this stitch. At the time my Mile a Minute blanket was doing well and I thought maybe people were looking to try these types of blankets again, so I thought “How can I make this in that style and still use up scrap yarn” which was my goal. So I made this in strips, changing to another color every 6 rows with single crochet borders on each side. I changed my colors staggering the color by one so when I sewed my strips together it would have a diagonal look. It was pretty easy! I did run out of a few colors, but I would just replace it with something similar and keep going. I used single crochets to sew my pieces together, this method of sewing is a nice way to add more color and it hold very strong. Not to mention it’s as easy as just crocheting a row of single crochets, no needles needed.

That’s it for now!

I hope this has inspired you in many ways! I just want to close in saying please support crocheters that are out there pushing the envolpe to create new way to crochet so that we can keep being inspired to create.

With the age of AI coming and starting to design crochet patterns, I fear the problem will only get worse than it is now, with the same things being taught over and over again with no real creativity.

So if you find a designer that you like, be sure to support them! Thank you to everyone who has supported me over the years and I hope to always be able to share my crochet with you. Be well and God bless!
