The Diagonal Spike Stitch is as beautiful as it is warm. This Warm Crochet Stitch would make an excellent stitch to use to make a blanket and it’s super easy to do. If you know how to do the Double crochet then you can do this stitch! This crochet pattern and tutorial will show you how to work this stitch in rows, but it can easily be worked into rounds by connecting the beginning chain.

For this project you will need:
- HOOK: Any size but I used 5 mm hook or size H hook for the US
- YARN: Any size but I used worsted weight yarn, 4 ply US, 10 ply AU
ABBREVIATIONS
(click on link to find tutorials)
CH = Chain
DC = Double Crochet
YO = Yarn over
sk a st / sk 3 sts = skip a stitch / skip 3 stitches
* = Repeat what’s in between * for rest of row
Special Crochet Stitch
SDC = Spike Double Crochet – YO and insert your hook into the same stitch as you used for the 1st of out the 3 dc’s you just did.
You are doing a normal DC only you are doing it in front of the other dc’s, pull the yarn up as to show the spike in front and not to crush the other stitches.

This stitch is done in multiples of 4
To Start
CH in multiples of 4
Row 1
Skip 3 CH’s (This counts as first dc) * DC into the 4th st and next 2 sts, skip a st and work a SDC over it instead * Repeat. Put a DC into last stitch of row. Turn your work.
Row 2
ch 3 (This counts as the first dc of row) skipping the first stitch * DC into the next 3 stitches, sk a st and work a SDC over it instead * Repeat. Put a DC into last stitch of row. Turn your work.
Rest:
Repeat row 2
