To Start

It’s recommended to use the size 6 mm \ J hook just to create the beginning chain

This stitch is done using an odd number of stitches. So if you are chaining to begin you want to do a chain of 100 so that when you make your first stitch you will have 99 stitches total. TIP: I recommend if using the chaining method that you use a 6mm \ J hook just to do the chain and keep in mind the idea is to have a looser chain so that the end blanket doesn’t pull in at the bottom.

If you are doing Single Crochet Foundation Stitches then do 99 total.

Row 1 – if you chained your beginning row \ if you did SCFS move on to row 2

Sc in 2nd ch from the hook and in all stitches (99 sts)

Row 2

* ch 3 and sk a st and sl st in next st. * repeat for row

Rows 3 – 6 (4 rows)

ch 3 and sl st into next ch 3 space.

Row 7

ch 3 and work a cluster stitch (see Special stitch for details) in the 1st ch 3 space. * ch 1, work a cluster in the next ch 3 sp * repeat for row. After your LAST cluster of the row don’t chain just 1, chain 3 and turn.

Row 8

sl st into first ch 3 space * ch 3 and sl st in the space in between the clusters * repeat for row. See below on how to end row.

Make sure to sl st after your last ch 3 into the space between the last cluster of the row and the ch 3 space.

Rows 9 – 12 (4 rows)

repeat rounds 3 – 6

Keep repeating rows 7 – 12 these 6 rows I am calling the sections. The Cluster row and the 5 ch 3 rows.

TO END THE BLANKET:

After ending your last section, you’ve done your 5 rows of ch 3. Ch 2 and turn, then work 2 single crochets in each ch 3 space. Ch 1 leaving enough of a tail to hide later.

In my blanket I had 17 sections total. And the finished size is:

  • LENGTH: 89 cms \ 35 inches
  • WIDTH: 79 cms \ 31 inches
