Gratifying Textured Shells Crochet Stitch – Free Crochet Pattern and Tutorial

Gratifying Textured Shells Crochet stitch is surprising warm and easy to crochet. This shell stitch uses double crochet and Double crochet decreases to make this very cool strip effect. This crochet stitch would make a beautiful baby blanket or throw. The multiples of the stitch are included so you can it any length you need.

For this project you’ll need:

HOOK: Size yarn recommends but I used 5 mm hook or size H hook for the US

YARN: Any size but I used worsted weight yarn, 4 ply US, 10 ply AU

 

ABBREVIATIONS

ch = Chain

sl st = Slip Stitch

st = Stitch

sk a st = Skip a stitch

sk = Skip

SC = Single Crochet

DC = Double Crochet

DC dec = Double Crochet decrease

* = Repeat what is in between the stars for the rest of the row

This stitch is done in multiples of 8 + 2

Once you chained your multiples to you desired width continue to row 1.

 

Row 1

sc in 2nd ch from the hook. * skip 3 sts and DC 9 into next st. skip 3 sts and sc in next * repeat what’s in between the *’s until last shell of 9 DC’s at the end of your row.

To end row skip 3 chs and sc in last ch of row. ch 3 and turn.

 

Row 2

Skip 1st DC of the shell and DC dec using the next 3 DC’s, pull through all 4 loops *and ch 3 skip 3 DC’s and sc in next, ch 3 and do a DC dec using the next 3 DC’s pull through all 4 loops and ch 1.  Now skipping the first DC on the next shell, DC dec in next 3 DC’s * repeat for row. 

To end row DC in last sc of the row. CH 1 and turn.

 

Row 3

Now using the sc that is in between our ch 3 spaces, you’ll want to put 9 Dc’s in that Sc then Sc onto the ch 1 space. (the big space) then start your next set of 9 DC’s in the center Sc. Repeat for row.

To end your row, Sc into the top of the ch 3

Repeat rows 2 and 3
