For this project you’ll need:

HOOK: 3.50 mm hook or size E hook for the US. Also you will need a 4.50 mm or 5mm size H hook just to make the beginning chain to ensure it’s not to tight.

YARN: 2 skeins of Light Worsted 3 ply US, 8 ply AU

  • 100 grams / 3.5. oz
  • 240 meters / 262 yards

This stitch is done in multiples of 6 + 2

 

To start

Ch 20 (18 + 2)

 

Row 1

TRC in 4th ch from hook. TRC in next st, * ch 2, TRC in next 6 sts * repeat for row until you reach your last 4 sts where you will ch 2 and TRC in last 3 sts. Ch 3 & turn.

 

Row 2

Do a sl st in between the next three sts bringing you into the ch 2 space. Ch 6 and sl st into the 3rd ch from the hook. Working in the same ch 2 space work a (TRC, ch 3, sl st onto the post of the TRC to create your picot. ) repeat 4 more times to give you 6 sts total with picot’s. *Ch 2 and sc in the space between the 3rd and 4th TRC, ch 2 and in the next ch 2 space work a (TRC, ch 3, sl st onto post of TRC) repeat this 5 more times into the same ch 2 space.* To end the row after you’ve done your last picot shell, ch 2 and sc into the top of the ch 3. Ch 3 & turn.

 

Row 3

TRC on the post of the 1st TRC of the row and TRC on the post of the next 2 TRC’s, ch 2 and TRC onto the post of the next 3 TRC’s * TRC on the post of the next 3 TRC’s, ch 2 and TRC onto the post of the next 3 TRC’s * repeat for row. At the end of your row after your last TRC is done ch 2 and sc into that little ch 3 space at the end. It was created last row when you did the ch 3 and sl stitched over 3. CH 3 & turn.

 

Row 4

Do a sl st in between the next three sts bringing you into the ch 2 space. Ch 6 and sl st into the 3rd ch from the hook. Working in the same ch 2 space work a (TRC, ch 3, sl st onto the post of the TRC to create your picot. ) repeat 4 more times to give you 6 sts total with picot’s. *Ch 2 and sc in the next ch 2 space, ch 2 and in the next ch 2 space work a (TRC, ch 3, sl st onto post of TRC) repeat this 5 more times into the same ch 2 space.* To end the row after you’ve done your last picot shell, ch 2 and sc into the top of the ch 3. Ch 3 & turn.

Repeat rows 3 and 4 for half of the scarf’s length. Then you want to cut your yarn after a picot shell row.

Attach your yarn back in the first TRC on your beginning row. Then you will repeat row 2.

Then repeat rows 3 & 4 again for the other half of the scarf.
