This Ribbed Crochet Baby Blanket is very warm. Makes a great blanket for the stroller or as a comforter in the dead of winter. Each strip of color on this afghan almost took a full skein of yarn to create. It’s a real yarn eater, but the blanket is spongy and warm and worth the effort I promise!
The pictures don’t do this blanket justice, it’s so textured and pretty! Would make a great baby gift.

The Multiples of this stitch is 4 + 1
so feel free to make it wider if you want to go for a full size.
To start: (With 1st color – Purple)
Ch 116 + 1 or DCFS 116 and skip to row 2.
Row 1
DC in 3rd ch from hook. DC in all sts. ch 2 and turn
You should have 116 sts.
Note
For the entirety of this pattern the Ch 2 will always count as the first stitch of the row. So always begin in the 2nd st of row.
Row 2
FPDC (I have updated this pattern to make this FPDC)in all sts except for the ending ch 2. You will always DC in the ending ch 2 for the entirety of this pattern and you will NOT FPDC in the 1st stitch of the row, these are your border sts. So FPDC in 2nd post of row.
BPDC in all sts until you reach the last stitch. DC in the last st. Ch 2 and turn
Row 3
DC in all sts. Ch 2 and turn
Row 4
FPDC on the posts of the next 2 sts. BPDC on the posts of the next 2 sts. Repeat for row. DC in ending ch 2. Ch 2 and turn.
TIP: To make it easier to keep count of my rows, I put a stitch marker on the last FPDC of the row. With rows 4 – 10 you should have 7 total rows of BPDCs and FPDCs.
Rows 5 – 10 (6 rows)
Basically, BPDC in your 2 BPDC’s and FPDC on your FPDC’s.
Repeat for row. DC in ending ch 2. Ch 2 and turn.
Row 11
DC in all sts. Then it’s time to change colors to the 2nd color.
Row 12 (With 2nd color – Gray)
Ch 2 and FPDC in all sts. DC in ending ch 2. Ch 2 and turn.
Row 13
DC in all sts. Ch 2 and turn.
Repeat rows 4 – 13
When you reach row 12 again change to your 3rd color White.
When I finished my blanket I had 3 rows of Purple, and 2 rows of gray and white.
When you finish the last section of your blanket there is no need to change colors. To end your blanket instead of changing colors on row 12, this time do the row with the same color. Repeat row 13 as well and ch 1 and cut your yarn. Time to grab your border color. I used the white color for mine.
The Border
Row 1
Attach your color in any corner and DC 3. You will always DC 3 in all four corners. DC in all stitches. Remember you are dealing with DC’s which are 2 stitches when using the side of the stitch, so on the side stitches DC 2. Try to evenly distribute them. Sl st in beg DC.
Row 2
Ch 2 and FPDC in your first stitch. Then BPDC in next. Continue all the way around.
Row 3
Ch 2 and FPDC in your FPDC’s, BPDC in your BPDCs. Sl st in beg ch 2. ch 1 and cut your yarn. Hide tails.
