Simple Beginner Lapghan – Free crochet pattern

This Simple Beginner Lapghan is super easy and mindless to crochet. If you are a beginner crocheter it can be hard to find a crochet pattern for an afghan that is pretty textured and simple. This afghan uses a stitch I designed myself called the Butterfly Stitch. It uses 2 stitches to create it. With the video tutorial you are sure to master this stitch in no time.

The Multiples of this stitch are 2 + 1

To Start:

Chain 161

Row 1

SC in 2nd ch from the hook. SC in all sts. ch 2 and turn

Row 2

BFS down the row. Remember the BFS uses 2 sts to complete. ch 2 and turn

Row 3 (This is your repeat row) I will break it up into steps to make it easier to follow.

Go through first wing and pull up a loop

Now chain 1 using that first loop you pulled up

Now go into the next stitch (the following butterfly wing) and pull up a loop

Now double crochet and ch 1.

Repeat for all the sets of butterfly wings.

For row 3 only, you will end the row by using the last single big space to start your BFS then finish the stitch by using the last stitch on the row. The stitch I am referring to looks like a SC.

From row 4 and on you should have an even number of BFS’s so it will be easy to end each row. Just don’t forget to always ch 2 and turn.
