To Start:

Chain 185 loosely – You much watch your tension here or else this beginning chain will be shorter than the stitches and cause them to pull tighter than your next row and you don’t want that.

Row 1:

dc in 5th ch from hook, * ch 1, skip a stitch, dc * repeat until end of row. It should work out where you have a dc in last stitch.

Row 2:

ch 4 and turn your work, (this ch 4 counts as your first dc and ch1)

dc in next st, * ch 4, trc in next 4 sts, Ch 4 and dc in next stitch, ch 1 and dc in next stitch. * repeat for row. Last stitch you dc in 3rd chain of beginning ch 4

Rows 3 – 6 (four rounds total)

ch 4 and turn your work, (this ch 4 counts as your first dc and ch1)

dc in next st, * Ch 4, sc in the next 4 stitches, ch 4, dc in next st, ch 1, dc in next stitch * repeat for round. Last stitch you dc in 3rd chain of beginning ch 4

Row 7:

ch 4 and turn your work, (this ch 4 counts as your first dc and ch1)

dc in next st, * ch 1 ( trc, ch 1) do this a total of 4 times. dc in next stitch, ch 1 and dc in next stitch. * repeat for row Last stitch you dc in 3rd chain of beginning ch 4

Row 8:

ch 4 and turn your work, (this ch 4 counts as your first dc and ch1)

dc in next st, * ch 1, skip a stitch, dc * repeat until end of row. Last stitch you dc in 3rd chain of beginning ch 4 and you have completed your first rows of the stitch pattern!

Repeat rows 2 – 8 to complete the stitch pattern 7 more times. If you desired a bigger shawl then keep repeating rows 2 -8 until you have it as big as you like.
