Striped Crochet Scarf (Unisex )- Free Crochet Pattern

I designed this Striped Crochet Scarf to be made with 1 skein and a bit of scrap yarn. I also wanted to make a crochet scarf for men or women! When I showed the scarf to my teenage daughter she told me it reminded her of a popular character’s scarf called Sykkuno. I had no idea who this was, but after looking up pictures I could see how she would say that lol.

I used a stitch that I filmed years ago, so though it’s not a perfect tutorial in color changes, it does show you exactly how I did the stitch and will be very helpful. Enjoy!

I’ll be using 2 colors so I’m referring to my Main Color as (MC) and my Secondary color as (SeC).

Since the multiple of this stitch is 1, you can make your scarf as big or as small as you wish.

To start: Using your (SeC)

  • Ch 21 or your desired width.

Row 1 – (SeC)

Sc in the second ch from the hook. SC in all sts. (20sts total)

ch 1 and turn.

Row 2 – (SeC)

Sc in 1st stitch of row and in all your remaining sts (20)

Row 3 – (MC)

Switch to your MC and then sl st into the beg stitch. Ch 4. The ch 4 counts as the first stitch.

Do a Quad in the following stitch and in all your stitches down the row. (20) Do not turn your work.

Row 4 – (SeC)

Attach your new color back at the start of the row and do a Single crochet attachment or sl st and ch 1. If you used the sl st method then sc into this same st.

SC in all your sts down your row. (20)

Row 5 – (MC)

Attach your new color back at the start of the row and do a Single crochet attachment or sl st and ch 1. If you used the sl st method then sc into this same st.

SC in all your sts down your row. (20) leave your color attached, just pull up the loop so it won’t unravel.

Row 6 – (SeC)

Do not Turn your work.

Now starting back at the beginning of the row. Grab your SeC color that’s still attached and pull it up through the beg stitch. Ch 1 and sc into the beginning st. SC in all sts for your row. Switch to MC using the loop you left from before and cut your SeC color.

Row 7 – (MC)

Once again you will sl st into the first st and ch 4. The ch 4 counts as the first stitch.

Do a Quad in the following stitch and in all your stitches down the row. (20) leave your color attached, just pull up the loop so it won’t unravel. Do not turn your work.

Now it’s time to go back to row 4. Repeat rows 4 – 7 until you’ve reached your desired size.

The fringe is optional. But I think it adds a reall nice touch!

I used every third stitch and attached them. I used 4 pieces for each set of fringe and I cut each strand 14 1/2 inches or 37 cms in length.
