I made this Teddy Bear Crochet Lovey for my nephew. I’ve been given some pictures of him with his crochet gift below if you’d like to see it. This crochet teddy bear lovey pattern is so easy to do and is sure to bring a smile to any face as they receive it!
I made the Unicorn Lovey for my Niece, but I also have a Baby Nephew so I just had to make one for him as well! And since unicorns are really the preferred style for baby girls, I decided on a Teddy Bear one for him. I think he came out so cute! What do you think?

For this project you’ll need:
HOOK: you will need 2 size hooks. 3 mm \ C hook and a 5 mm \ H hook
YARN: medium 4 worsted weight yarn \ Aran 10 ply
3 skeins of Variegated yarn – 100g / 250 meter Skeins to make the afghan portion of this pattern.
And one solid color (Coffee Brown Color)- I used only one skein – Worsted weight yarn 100 grams \ 190 meters of the
I also used a very small amount of Worsted weight yarn in blue for the feet, nose and ears.
You’ll also need:
- Tapestry Needle
- Hot Glue Gun
- Fiber Fill
- Small amount of Felt in Black and White

sl st = Slip Stitch
st = Stitch
sk = Skip
dec = decrease
beg = beginning
YO = Yarn Over
FPDC = Front Post Double Crochet
SC = Single Crochet
DC = Double Crochet
HDC = Half Double Crochet
FLO = Front Loop Only
BLO = Back Loop Only
DCFS = Double Crochet Foundation Stitch
Sc dec = single crochet decrease
Dc dec = Double crochet decrease
Repeat what’s in between * for rest of round.
I got the pictures back of my Nephew with the gift I gave him! His parents say he LOVES it! I think it’s a winner!

First thing you need for a lovey is a great stitch for the afghan! I’ve been looking for something to make with this stitch since I first filmed a tutorial on it back in 2017.
I was lucky enough to find two solid colors that matched really well with the variegated yarn I found.
SIZE of this Afghan
- 57 centimeters wide and 71 centimeters long
- 22 inches wide and 28 inches long
MY GAUGE:
These sizes are measured using my gauge of 1 cm per stitch or 5 cms or per 2 ½ inches per shell.
SIZES:
If you want to a larger afghan with this stitch then Double Crochet Foundation Stitch or chain # in ()
- Twin – 152 (155)
- Full – 188 (191)
- Queen – 206 (209)
- King – 248 (251)

Multiples of this stitch
- Is 6 + 5 – if your chaining, make sure your chain isn’t to tight
- or Multiples of 6 + 2 if your using DCFS
The Afghan
Using your 5 mm \ H hook
Row 1
DCFS 86 or ch 89
If you chained, then DC in 6th ch from hook and DC in all your sts before you reach row 2. You should end with 8 sts.
Row 2
Ch 3, sk 1st DC and SC in next * CH 3, Skip 2 sts, sc in next * Repeat for row
End your row: when you come to your last 2 sts. Ch 1 and HDC in last st of row. Ch 1 and Turn
Row 3
sc in the first HDC of row. Skipping our ch 1 space and moving to our first ch 3 space, (the second space of the row) *crochet DC 2, ch 2, DC 2 in the ch 3 space. SC in next ch 3 space. *
To end your row: Sc in lst ch 1 space of row. CH 3 and turn.
Row 4
The first 3 ch counts as a stitch. FPDC into the 2nd DC of row.
* CH 2 and sc in the next ch 2 space. Ch 2.
FPDC dec using the next DC, then skip over to the next DC next to your ch 2 space and finish your FPDC decrease. * Repeat for row.
To end your row: Repeating the same pattern, when you get to the last FPDC dec of row, finish your FPDC dec by using the last sc of the row. Ch 3 and turn.
Row 5
ch 3 counts as the first st of the row. On this row you will be putting 2 DC’s in your ch 2 spaces and 1 DC in each of your sc and FPDC dec stitches.
Repeat rows 1 – 5
The Border
Using your 5 mm \ H hook
Attach your yarn in the corner of one of the top rows.
Do a DC attachment or sl st and ch 2. DC 2 more times in the same stitch. DC 3 in all stitches at the top.
At the end of the row HDC in the first side stitches, then continue down the side of the afghan putting one SC in all sts. Keep your sc’s as even as you can. The goal is to not put to many single crochets together, but as evenly spread out as you can.
