Wavy Crochet Stitch – Free Crochet Pattern and Video Tutorial

I just love the look of Wavy Crochet Stitch and how you can really play with color. Sometimes it’s the texture that makes a stitch, but other times it’s the color pattern! I’ve had some stitches that looked great in variegated yarn and others that just made it look not so pretty. This stitch is done in rows, allowing you to add and take away color whenever you want, making it a great stitch to make hats or scarves that would fit a man or a woman.

I teach you how to do this stitch in the Round and in Rows so you can make whatever you want using it!

  • HOOK:  size 5mm / H hook.
  • YARN: You can do this stitch uses any size yarn, and the hook that the yarn recommends.  I used worsted weight yarn 4 ply US and 10 ply AU
  • Tapestry Needle

The Multiples of the stitch

This stitch is worked in multiples of 14 + 2 then add 1 more for working stitch because you can’t work in first chain of hook, so you will loose this last stitch right away.

For scarves and afghans here are some recommended stitch sizes:

Scarves

For a skinny scarf ch 17
For a wider size scarf you can chain 31

Afghans

For a twin size bed chain 157
For a queen size bed chain 213
For a king size bed chain 255

Once you have your desired amount of chains continue to Round 1

When working this stitch in the round, you will still have to flip / turn your work on a Single crochet row. Chain 1 and turn before you flip.

You’ll be changing colors every row so you may not need a marker, but place one if you need. Always switch out your color by pulling through the existing color’s loop then pull through new color, pull old color to tighten loop.

I show how to change colors in the tutorial.
