V Stitch Ripple Crochet Stitch – Free Crochet Pattern

This V Stitch Ripple Crochet Stitch Pattern and Crochet tutorial will teach you how to make this steep Lacy ripple allows one color to flow into the next color beautifully. Works best if you switch colors every 2 rows. I used 4 different colors. I would love to see what you come up with. This stitch is done in multiples of 20 + 3

To start

The multiples of this stitch is 20 + 3 which means to ch in multiples of 20 until you reach desired size then ch 3 more and you’re ready to begin row 1.

The sizing on this pattern is different because it is a ripple, so the size of your row will reduce after you’ve crocheted row 1. When I measure my piece I learned that you loose about an inch of length every 20 chains. So take this in account when creating your beginning ch.

TIP: If you have trouble keeping your beginning chain loose, then go up one hook size just to make the chain. (Example: From a 5 \ H size hook to a 6 \ J size Hook just to make the chain)

Row 1

(if you did switch hook sizes, switch back now)

V stitch in the 5th ch from the hook, *| ch 1, sk 3 chs, V stitch into next stitch | repeat 1 more time. Then in the same stitch ch 3 and V stitch again. This is your upper peak. | ch 1, sk 3 chs, V stitch into next stitch | repeat 1 more time. Then without chaining sk 3 sts and do a V stitch. This is your down peak. * repeat for row.

To end your row: Your last 6 chains you will skip 3 and V stitch in next stitch, then without chaining 1 just DC in last ch. Ch 3 & turn.

Row 2

We’ll be working in the ch 1 spaces from last row, not the v stitches. V stitch & ch 1 in the ch 1 space, then repeat by doing a V stitch & ch 1 in the next ch 1 space. Crochet a V stitch, ch 3, v stitch to create your upper peak. Ch 1 and V stitch in the next two ch 1 spaces. After you’ve completed the second V stitch, don’t chain 1 just V stitch into the next Ch 1 space to create your down peak. Ch 1 * Repeat for row.

To end your row: In the very last ch 1 space of the row work a V stitch, then without chaining, working in the very last 3, in that space, put a DC. Ch 3 & turn

I recommend switching colors every 2 rows, but feel free to color change whenever you like.

Row 3 – This is the row you will be repeating from now on.

Three things to know before we start:

  • We will always be crocheting 2 rows down, so the stitches this row will be put into the V stitches from previous row. (So on Row 1 if this is your first time)
  • Second thing is we’ll be working in the V stitches from not on and not the ch 1 spaces.
  • Always remember to skip the first V stitch of the row and go right into the second V stitch.

To begin your row remember we are working 2 rows down now, skip the first V stitch and go right into the second V stitch and * V stitch, ch 1. * V stitch in next V stitch and ch 1. Then on the ch 3 we’ll create our upper peak as before, V stitch, ch 3, V stitch all into the ch 3 space and ch 1. Crochet a V stitch ch 1 into your next V stitch. Then V stitch into your next V stitch but don’t ch 1 after, just V stitch into next V stitch. Ch 1. * repeat for row.

To end your row: In the very last ch 1 space of the row work a V stitch, then without chaining, working in the very last 3, in that space, put a DC. Ch 3 & turn

Repeat row 3 changing colors after 2 rows of the same color.
