Crochet Tube Scarf – Zig Zag Scarf – Free Crochet pattern

This Crochet Tube Scarf’s color changes are even easier than the Butterfly Stitch Tube Scarf was. Also both of these tube scarves would be great for both men and women and talk about warm!

It’s double thick and the texture of the zig zag is so easy to do because tube scarves are done in the round, so it’s easy to keep track of which direction your zig zags are going.

My Scarf Measured

  • 6 1/2 inches or 17 cms wide
  • 58 ½ inches or 149 cms long

Multiples of the Stitch

Multiples of 40 loosely for this size of scarf or Ch in muliples of 2

To Start: with 1st color

sl st in beg ch 2 to form a ring.

Round 1 with 1st color

Ch 2 (counts as 1st DC) and DC in rest of 39 chains. The beg ch 2 counts as a stitch so you should have 40 sts in all. Sl st in top of beginning ch to end round.

Round 2 with 1st color

Ch 2 (counts as 1st DC) and DC in the next 8 sts.

*Then DFPC (see special stitch)

DC in next 9 DC’s* repeat for round.

To end round: DFPC in last stitch of round. Sl st in beg ch 2.

You should have 4 Double Front Post Crochet every round.

Round 3 with 1st color

Ch 2 and immediately DFPC onto that ch 2. So your first stitch will be the Special stitch.

Your new DFPC should be one stitch over, your special stitch will be going diagonally, so every round the next special stitch will be one more over.

*DC in next 9 sts. DFPC onto next post*

To end round: Sl st in beg DFPC.

Round 4 with 1st color

Ch 2 and DFPC on next post. Your special stitch is the second stitch of the row this time.

*DC in next 9 sts. DFPC onto next post*

To end round: DC in last 8 sts. Sl st in beg ch 2

Round 5 with 1st color

Ch 2 and DC in next stitch.

DFPC onto next

*DC in next 9 sts. DFPC onto next post*

Repeat of round 5

Row 15 with 3rd color

Repeat of round 6

Row 16 with 3rd color

At this point you should have 15 special stitches in a diagonal row.

Find your first special stitch from row 16 and count down your previous rows, your Special stitch should be diagonal so you count down until you have 15 total in a row.

Now we want to start going the other way with it.

This is going to be your last row of Grey as well.

Ch 2 and DC in 1st st

DFPC onto next post. [This one should be BEFORE the last DFPC we did on the previous row.]

Important Notes

  • Counting from the most pointed peak. The place where we first started changing direction, you should be able to count up 10 DFPC’s.
  • Just letting you know that it’s up to you if you’d like to change directions now or wait a few more rows. It depends on how zig zaggy you want your zigzags to be. I started with them spaced out at 10, but by the end I had them spaced out by 15.
  • But just for the purpose of this pattern we’re changing every 9 rows, the last DFPC from the previous direction will always count as our 10th zig zag.
  • So for rounds 32 – 35 you’ll also be using the Dark teal before switching back to your White color for the row. [see color pattern at top of pattern]

To FINISH your SCARF – After I did 10 rows with my variegated yarn. Keeping with the variegated yarn, do a row of DC’s. Cut yarn leaving a long enough tail to be hidden. Make sure to check the beginning of the scarf as well and hide all the tails that would show.
