All your puff stitches in a row – Free crochet pattern

This Puff Stitch crochet pattern is for a tutorial I found on YouTube. Picture and Tutorial by: Ören Hanım on YouTube. Find her channel here. It’s in a different language but I thought it was beautiful and wanted to share it with you. I tried as usual to crochet it first with worsted weight yarn because it’s easier to see on camera so it’s a better teaching tool, but sadly the stitch didn’t look the same at all! So I recommend using the correct yarn and hook size for this stitch if you want the same results as in the video tutorial.

THE VIDEO TUTORIAL

NOTE: Again this is not my tutorial, but if you want to watch it as you follow along with this English pattern it could help you understand the stitch a little easier.

This stitch is done in multiples of 16 + 3

To start

Ch in multiples of 16 until you reach desired size, then ch 3 more and you’re ready to begin row 1.

Row 1

DC in 5th ch from the hook and ch 1, * sk 1 st and DC in next st and ch 1 * Repeat for row. To end row Dc in last st. ch 3 and turn.

Row 2

(The ch 3 counts as your 1st DC ch 1) skip the Ch 1 space and DC in the second DC of the row. Then DC in the ch 1 space. Continue to DC in the DC’s and Ch 1 spaces until you have 7 DC’s in a row. Ch 1 and DC in the 3rd Ch 1 space over.

Now we are going to make our first Puff stitch (PS). Ch 1 and pull up your yarn to extend it. { YO, insert your hook into the DC and pull up a loop and pull to extend your yarn again.} Do this a total of 5 times. Then YO and pull through all your loops and Ch 3 and SC all in the same stitch to anchor down the puff stitch.

Working in the same ch 1 space as before, DC and Ch 1 } Repeat 3 more times for a total of 4 Puff sts.

Beginning of the repeat . *Skip two DC’s and DC in the 3rd DC over, and DC in the Ch 1 space. Continue to DC in the DC’s and Ch 1 spaces until you have 7 DC’s in a row and Ch 1. DC in the 3rd Ch 1 over and Ch 1. Pull up your yarn to extend it.

* To end row: After you finish your 7 DC’s in a row, ch 1, skip the first ch and DC in the ending ch 3.

Row 3 (Change Colors now and on every other repeat of this row.)

Attach your color and ch 3, skip the ch 1 space and DC in next st. Then DC in the next 6 DC’s until you have 7 DC’s in a row and Ch 1.

*Fold your puff stitches over to expose the 4 DC’s that your Puff stitches were worked on the previous row.

Working on the four DC’s under the Puff Stitches, FPDC 1 onto the post’s of each those DC’s then Ch 1 and move over to your 7 DC’s in a row and work 1 DC in each of them. Ch 1 * Repeat until end of row.

To end row: After you finish your 7 DC’s in a row, ch 1 and DC in the middle of your ch 3 to end row. Ch 3 and turn.

Row 4

*skip the ch 1 space and DC in next st. Then DC in the next 6 DC’s until you have 7 DC’s in a row and Ch 1.

Now we’ll be doing our PS’s in the FPDC’s we did from last row. Ch 1. * Repeat until end of row. To end row: After you finish your 7 DC’s in a row, ch 1 and DC in the middle of your ch 3 to end row. Ch 3 and turn.

Keep repeating rows 3 & 4 changing colors every other repeat. So change on rows 5,7,9,11…etc
