Christmas Mat and Pine cone Tree – Blog Post #4
As some of you already know, I live in Israel, but I grew up in the United States. I grew up having Christmas, but besides the Christmas Tree we have, we don’t really have any Christmas decorations. Very hard to find out here as you can imagine. If I am to have them I have to make them myself, so that’s just what we’re doing.
I saw a few large pine cones on my way home that were closed and grabbed them. I had never seen closed pine cones and they were beautiful. I painted them purple and was using them as décor pieces, as you can see by the picture below.
But then right before our eyes, as the week went on, they opened up! My plan’s changed for them because now they looked like little Christmas trees. We repainted them green and Lilly even found another one at her friends and brought it home for us to paint, so now we have three!
I wanted them to have a base to sit on that were Christmas colors. I had debated about just crocheting something that looked like snow, but decided I would rather have color. I always wanted to make a mat from the flowers I used to make the Crochet Flower Purse so I grabbed my green and red and got started!
I made several of the centers and kept them in a bag for easy access.
The finished piece was 6 by 5 flowers. 30 flowers total.
Which fit my little area perfectly!
Now I needed to make my tree’s pretty!
I took some of my daughters glitter paint and dabbed on dots of colors to make them look like ornaments. And cut out a star from thin cardboard and painted it with the glitter paint too.
I grabbed some pom pom yarn and furry yarn to use as tassels for my other two trees, Lilly was happy to help me.
I hope that this blog post gives you idea’s on something you can make for yourself or with your kids this Christmas. Until next time MERRY CHRISTMAS!!
