Puff and Picots Crochet Stitch Free Pattern and Tutorials

The name of the Puff and Picots Crochet Stitch pretty much says everything about this stitch. Use thicker or thinner yarn to get a different look to the puffs and the stitch. I used a 3 ply yarn for the pictures, but I imagine the puffs would be much fuller if I had used a 4 ply. This would make a beautiful lacy blanket for spring or fall nights.

Multiples of the Stitch

This stitch is done in multiples of 8 + 5

To start

Chain in multiples of 8 until you reach your desired size, then ch 5 more and you’re ready to begin row 1

Row 1

PS in the 9th ch from the hook. This will create a stitch that we will be using next. * CH 4, and SL into in that new stitch on the top of the PS to create your first Picot.

Then CH 3 and PS into the same stitch as your first PS. CH 4, and SL into the stitch at the top of this PS. Just like you did the previous one. You have now completed your first Puff and Picot stitch.

CH 1 and skip 3, DC in the 4th st.

CH 1 and skip 3, PS into next stitch * Repeat for row.

To end your row: You should have 4 chains left after you complete your last Puff and Picots stitch, skip 3 of the chains and DC into the last ch of the row to end. CH 4 and turn.

Row 2 (this is the repeat row)

You will be working your Puff and Picot stitchs in the ch 3 spaces that are in between the two puffs.

YO and PS using the ch 3 space. *Then CH 3 and PS into the same CH 3 sp as your first PS. CH 4, and SL into the stitch at the top of this PS.

CH 1 and DC into the DC,

CH 1 and PS into next stitch. CH 4, and SL into in that new stitch on the top of the PS to create your Picot.* Repeat for row.

To end your row: After your last Puff and Picot stitch, Ch 1 and DC in the second chain of your ending chain. CH 4 and turn.

NOTE * for this Row it will be the big chain 8 at the end form the 1st row, but you will still count over 2 and put your DC in there. From now on it will be a CH 4 at the end and you will still be using the 2nd ch over. Then CH 4 and turn.
