Winsome Lacy Crochet Stitch – Free Crochet Pattern

This Winsome Stitch is a lacy crochet stitch that’s great to use for scarves and shawls or even a lacy throw and is so easy to do.

So if you’re looking for a lacy shell scarf or just a lacy scarf pattern in general that’s easy to do and looks amazing, then this is the stitch for you.

For this project you’ll need:

HOOK: 5 mm hook or size H hook for the US and a 6 mm hook or size J hook for the US

YARN: Worsted weight yarn, 4 ply US, 10 ply AU

Skein size and amount I used.

100 grams / 3.5. oz

240 meters / 262 yards

 
 

ABBREVIATIONS

ch = Chain

sl st = Slip Stitch

st = Stitch

sc = Single Crochet

dc = Double Crochet

YO = Yarn over

* = Repeat what is in between the stars for the rest of the row

This stitch is done in multiples of 7 + 2

To Start:

Using your 6mm \ J hook

Ch in multiples of 7 until you reach the desired width of the scarf, shawl or afghan that you wish, then ch 2

 

Row 1

Change to your 5mm \ H hook

sc in 2nd ch from hook, skip 2 sts and *{ |YO, insert your hook into next stitch and pull up a loop| Repeat this 2 more times giving you 7 loops on your hook. (As shown in picture 1 below)

YO and pull through only 6 of the loops leaving the last loop along, 2 loops left (as shown in picture 2) YO and pull through last remaining 2 loops and ch 1 (as shown in picture 3) } working in the SAME stitch, repeat what is in between the {}’s (shown in pictures 4 & 5)

Now working into the very next chain repeat what you just did in this chain as well. (shown in pictures 6 & 7) skip 2 sts and sc into the next st. (shown in picture 8) ch 1 and skip 2 sts * and repeat what’s in between the * for the whole row. You should end with a sc in last stitch.

Row 2

Change colors here

ch 3 and dc into first sc of row. * ch 5 and dc, ch 1, dc (V-Stitch) into next sc * repeat for row. You should end with a dc 1, ch 1, dc 1 (V-Stitch) in last sc.

 

Row 3

Ch 3 and turn, Work your puff stitches as you did for row 2, only working 2 in this 1st V stitch. * DC into the space between the 4 puff stitches below (as shown in picture 11) ch 1 and working in the next V stitch, work all 4 puff stitches into this V stitch.

Repeat for row, * DC, ch 1 into next sc, work your 4 puff sts in V stitch * at end of row work only 2 puff sts just like you did at the beginning of the row.

 

Row 4

Change colors here

ch 5 and DC, ch 1, DC in next DC, * ch 5 and DC , ch , DC into next DC. * repeat what’s in between *’s for row. To end row ch 3 and DC in top of ch 3.

 

Row 5

ch 3 and work your * 4 puff sts into the V stitch, DC into the space between the 4 puff stitches below, ch 1 * repeat for row. To end row dc into the 3rd ch of the ch 5.

 

Row 6 – Don’t forget to change colors

ch 3 and Dc into same st, * ch 5 and Dc, ch 1, Dc into next Dc, * repeat for row. You should end your row with a V stitch. (see Pictures below)

Repeat rows 3 – 6 until desired size of scarf, shawl or afghan is reached.
