With White

Round 1

You have ways to make this row depending on the look your after.

sl st attach your white yarn.

If you want the white color to show up around the inner ear like the picture below then sl st in back loops only when doing your slip stitches. (14)

Then sl st under BOTH loops when slip stitching this round.

Either way you choose to do it, you should have 14 slip stitches at the end of the round.

Rounds 2 – 5 (4 rows)

SC in BLO’s of all 14 sts. Be sure NOT to crochet to tightly here.

After round 5 pull your white section over the back of the purple to cover It up and sl st to sew this ear closed. Leave a long tail for sewing the ear on.

The Eyes

I used felt to make the eyes. A bit of white and black. My daughter designed the eyes and made a drawing and I did the best I could to recreate it.

I think it’s best to make the ears then find a place where the ears and head look good together, leaving a place in the center of the ears for the horn.

With Gold or a Bright Yellow Color

Round 1

ch 3, sl st in beg ch to form a ring. SC 6 into ring

Round 5

Change Color to WHITE

Rounds 6 – 38 (20 rounds of white)

sc in all sts (18)

After round 38 sl st into next stitch and cut your yarn leaving a long tail for sewing.

Best to do the hair when you’re ready to attach it.

Change to your 5 mm Hook. Use all 15 colors once. Except for white.

Row 1

When creating your slip knot, be sure to leave a small tail.

Ch 30 Make sure your chain is not to loose or the hair won’t curl for round 2.

Row 2

sc 2 in 2nd ch from hook. Sc 2 in all sts.

Attach to head by slip stitching and ch 1. Cut yarn leaving a tail. Tie both tails into a few knots to extra secure and hide your tails using a tapestry needle, down the hair.

I tried to stay on a line, attaching a strand of hair in every other stitch. You can see by this picture where I started.

After adding the first row, make a second row and even a third row using the same method, but using the skipped stitches one row down.

I only filled in the top park of the head. Until all colors are used. Keeping them together lets the hair be more full.

To sew on your pieces you want to lay your piece out and your aim is to sew the head on the middle double white row.

Start to sew the head on ¾ of the way back. Using the bottom of the white row then once it’s attached on the bottom part of row, pull the other side of row forward and sew it to the head as well. Making the whole white row the neck of the unicorn.

To attach the arms you’ll want to sew it to the afghan and through the arm and then the head.

But first you’ll need to sew your arms shut.

Lift up the arm and sew to attach to the body and blanket form below to give it that extra strength.

Attach the other arm the same way just make sure the arms arm even across from one another. Use the Double white row as a guide.
