Reverb Granny Square Poncho – Blog Post #13

I was making a Granny Square poncho for my hubby, but it turned out to small, but it was perfect for my son, who by coincidence had told me the day before he wanted a warmer poncho.

Ask and you shall receive eh? What luck for him!

This is the same granny that I used for the I Heart Polka Dots Afghan

How I made the poncho!

I used 2 skeins of each color

The ply is Worsted weight yarn (4ply US \ 10 ply AU) in 4 colors

  • Off white
  • Light blue
  • Light teal blue
  • Medium grey

First make 12 Reverb Granny Squares which you can find at this link – I used this square pattern leaving off the last row of white if you want to make a child size. Use all rows if you want to make an adult. Pattern at link but you can find the video tutorials below.

Same goes for making an even smaller size! Just leave off the last 2 rows for example.

How to sew your grannies together

I used the single crochet method to sewing my pieces together. Using the front loops only.

  • Sew 5 Grannies together for the first row. (Gold Squares indicated on the picture.)
  • Then sew 5 grannies for the 2nd row as well giving you 10 grannies used in total. (Purple Squares indicated on the picture.)Giving you 2 rows of 5 grannies.
  • Once you have this done. You can make the shoulder by Sewing your 2 remaining granny squares above the first 2 grannies you sewed. (Light Blue Squares indicated on the picture.)

Sew your ring of 10 grannies to form a ring. This makes the body of the poncho.

To make the shoulder, just fold your 2 shoulder grannies in half and sew them onto it’s a jointed granny. Lay your piece flat to make sure you have it in the right place. I am Referring to your two light blue shoulder squares from the picture. You are making a V shape.

It’s recommended to sew a collar of some kind to make the poncho fit better over time, because the hole will be a bit to wide in my option. Use single crochets or whatever stitch you think looks best.

I hope you can make a poncho for yourself or a loved one! Have a great day crochet friend.
