For this project you will need:

HOOK: 5 mm hook or size H hook for the US

YARN: Worsted weight yarn, 4 ply US, 10 ply AU – 100 grams

I used Variegated yarn mostly, mixed with strips of solid colors that I felt went well with my variegated color.

Solid color rows:

The plain color rows used a skein of yarn, though sometimes I would have to grab another skein to finish the row. Best to get an extra skein of each color. Each skein is 100 grams and 240 meters / 262.46 yds. 10 rows total for each solid color strip.

Variegated color rows:

The variegated color skeins is 100 grams and 350 meters / 383 yds so because they’re a bigger skein, I was able to do a much bigger section of variegated yarn. Which is what I wanted for the look of my blanket. 14 rows total for each variegated strip.

I also used 2 rows of white in between color changes, so grab a couple skeins of white.

Gauge of the stitch is 1 1/2 inches or 4 cms.

Multiples of the stitch

The multiples of this stitch is 4 + 1 if using SCFS = Single Crochet foundation stitch

The multiples of this stitch is 4 + 2 if using Chains

Border I used my Variegated yarn for my first 3 rows.

Row one (Front side (good side) facing you.)

Attach your yarn to the 1stside SC. Ch 1 and SC into this beginning stitch. SC a total of 240 down the side stitches. Be sure to space them apart evenly. Because they need to be done evenly, there isn’t a certain pattern of where to put the stitches, but this is the general rule I followed.

SC only ONCE in the ch 2 spaces and you don’t always need to SC in the stitches into between the two ch 2 spaces. Because sometimes to keep the stitches even, you will need to skip the stitch in between the ch 2 spaces. So let your SC’s tell you where the next stitch needs to be.

If you spaced the SC’s out well enough, you should end up with a flat row and not a ruffled one. NOTE: If it ruffles you know you have too many stitches and if the row starts to pull on itself, then you need to back up and add a SC or two.

I recommend to count the whole time, mark every 50thor 100thstitch if you need, just do your best to make sure you ahve an even row and it’s not pulling or bunching up.

I did it for both sie of my blanket. One side border I got 240 sts and the other was 212 sts both can be divided by 4 for the multiples of the stitch to work.

I found that the 240 side was more ruffled when finished and this is the side I took pictures from. The other side is more even and straight when finished. You decide the look you’re going for. When done with this SC row, Ch 2 and turn.

Row 2

Ch 2 counts as beginning st

*skip a st, V st into next (dc, ch 1, dc) skip next st, then DC 1 *

Repeat for row. To end Row: DC in last stitch. Ch 2 and turn.

Row 3

Ch 2 counts as beginning st

* FPDC on the post of the V st. V stitch in the ch 1 sp, FPDC on next post of the V st. FPDC on the single DC *

Repeat for row. To end Row: DC in last stitch. Ch 2 and turn.

Row 4

Change to Your first Solid color for rows 4 and 5. The color pattern I used was the same as the blanket.

Ch 2 counts as beginning st.

* Sk FPDC and DC in next DC. V st in ch 1 sp. DC on next DC. Sk next FPDC. BPDC on FPDC *(this was out FPDC from last row)

Repeat what’s in between * for rest of row then Ch2 and turn.

Row 5 Stay with the same Solid color

Ch 2 counts as beginning st.

* Sk 1stDC and FPDC on 1stDC post of the V st. V st in the Ch 1 sp. FPDC on 2nd DC post of the V st. Sk next DC. FPDC on BPDC.*

Repeat what’s in between * for rest of row then Ch2 and turn.

Keep changing to your solid colors, use the same order of colors as your blanket or change it up. It’s up to you. Keep repeating rows 4 and 5 with every color change. I did all 5 solid colors then a row of the variegated yarn.
